NSBA Backgrounder

An Executive Council, having equal representation from both steel bridge fabrication and steel-producing companies, has the sole responsibility for directing, approving and funding of the activities of the alliance. Reporting to the executive council is the Executive Director of the NSBA, who manages the day-to-day activities of the professional staff including administrative, field, and technical groups.

In addition to steel fabricators and producers, NSBA brings together all the agencies and groups that have a stake in steel bridge construction to serve in an advisory capacity. Included in this group are representatives from AASHTO, FHWA, DOTs, bridge consultants, erectors, and people representing the paint, fastener, and welding industries.

Regional Directors

The Regional Directors are the primary liaisons between the NSBA and bridge owners. They assist fabricators, designers and owners alike in making the best bridge design selections possible. The Regional Directors assist the Regional and State Coordinators in their consultations with owners.

NSBA Regional Groups

Five regional groups are organized and currently recruiting new fabricator members. Top Priorities:

  • Deliver and provide education and training in cost-effective steel bridge design, specifications, marketing and promotional activities, and much more; facilitate members, making them better equipped to provide bridge owners the best in steel bridge design.
  • Initiate and develop a strong communication link between the researchers and the construction community, identifying needs and furnishing solutions.
  • Demonstrate the economic and technical feasibility of steel bridge design and construction of all span lengths.
  • Transfer the technology and innovative programs developed by the national organization to the owners and designers.
  • Sponsor seminars and programs bringing the most knowledgeable talent in the industry to the bridge owners, engineers, and consultants.
